Over 200 games listed! ................See News Below!

Welcome to our revised site, which now boasts an index (see left). All the content on this site (except comments) is available without logging in. We have now identified over 500 serious games, which we are in the process of adding to this list."

To view the games and explore the catalog, click on the categories at the left.

"Many game designers today are looking to maximize the social impact of their work."
- Will Wright, Designer, Sim City and The Sims

The goal of this site is to catalog the growing number of video and computer games whose primary purpose is something other than to entertain. These are also known as "serious games."

"Game" (i.e. video and computer) has become a language --i.e. a medium of expression -- in which almost any idea can be, and is being, expressed. It is our intention to help document this growing phenomenon and list, so that:

1. People who want to locate Social Impact Games can find them, and
2. People who want to create Social Impact Games can see what others have done.

We welcome any additions, comments, corrections and suggestions. Please contact Marc Prensky with all feedback.

World Hunger - Food Force

World Hunger - FOOD FORCE

A game about world hunger from the United Nations World Food programme, designed to educate young people about world hunger and the work of the agency.

Premise: A major crisis has developed in the Indian Ocean, on the island of Sheylan. WFP is sending in a new team to step up the World Food Programme’s presence there and help feed millions of hungry people.

The game represents too many parts our real world, where 852 million people lack enough food to eat and World Food Programme teams deliver food aid using not only airplanes but a fleet of ships and thousands of trucks. Play the Food Force game, learn about food aid, and help us work towards a world without hunger.

Developed by Deepend, a computer design studio based in Rome, and game developers Playerthree in London.

Media Blackout

Media Blackout

Media Blackout is a 3D video game in which the user is confronted with corporate interests, religious fundamentalism and military aggression through the deliberate manipulations of corporate media. Surrounded by media noise, government propaganda, spectacular phenomena and a sea of oil, the user attempts to maintain psychological resistance and ultimately transcend the media threat – escaping 'corporatized consciousness'.

The game explores an apocalyptic present in which radical actions by the corporate-military-media industrial complex seek to systematically dominate the psyche. Today's media message is imperial spectacle – a constellation of militaristic plutocrats, right-wing media moguls and neo-fascist populists stridently attempting to colonize subjectivity in their pursuit of 'full-spectrum dominance'.Media Blackout creates an allegorical environment through new interactive technologies – attempting to immerse both player and viewer in the true 'psychological operations' of our time.
